Turkey: police fine 800 vapers after raid

Turkish police cited 800 vapers for indoor smoking after conducting a raid at a “vape party” in Istanbul. They also detained three of the party organizers.

The party was advertised on Facebook, and took place on the terrace of a restaurant, according to the Hurriyet Daily News. The paper reports that police acted based on the Facebook posts, and placed the location under surveillance.

Apparently, all 800 guests received “administrative fines,” which don’t involve a criminal charge. There is no explanation of how 800 people were kept in place till tickets were written for all of them. The party took place in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district.

Vaping isn’t illegal in Turkey, but the country does include vaping in indoor smoking bans. Importation and advertising are prohibited, but vapers haven’t reported problems taking devices and e-liquid into the country for personal use.

Vaping360 would like to hear from any Turkish readers about vaping in Turkey. Is it discouraged? Can you easily find equipment and e-liquid? Leave comments below.
