Wismec RX21700 | Key features & first impressions

Wismec RX21700 intro

The RX21700 is a fresh take on a classic mod. It utilizes two 21700 batteries and also comes with adapters so you can use 18650 batteries instead. It has a similar form factor as the RX2/3 in dual-battery mode, but is slightly scaled up to accommodate the larger batteries. It’s available in 4 colors: gloss black, gradient purple, gradient white, and gradient green. All of them have a black battery door and come with a matching black Gnome sub ohm tank.

Price: $43.90

More life, fewer batteries

Wismec-rx2-21700

For anyone that has used a Wismec mod before, the RX21700 will feel very familiar. It has the same screen and menu system as the RX Gen 3. It may be the same chip, but it is the same screen for sure. It also uses the same menu system as well, which is a bit clunky and outdated.

I wish they would have gone with the updated Ravage 230 screen and menu, which is much nicer. It makes sense since this is designed by JayBo, like all the RX mods, and the Ravage 230 is designed by Sinuous. Personally, I found the RX Gen 3 to be full of issues while the Ravage 230 mod performs great. (Hopefully the RX21700 performs more like the Ravage and less like the Gen 3.)

It’s funny that they still call it the RX, but that’s likely due to the popularity of the model. RX is short for Reuleaux which is a type of triangle that the original one was shaped after. It made sense for the prior RX mods, but this new one no longer has that shape, since it isn’t a 3-battery mod.

The RX21700 is comfortable, nicely sized and has a great paint job

I’ve had the RX21700 for a day and my initial impressions are that it’s comfortable and not too big. It can handle an atomizer up to 25 millimeters without overhang, which suits me just fine. And the paint job is great! They’ve really stepped up their finish game. Also, I’ve had no button rattle and the fire button is nice and clicky. The battery door is fairly nice too. It slides on from the bottom using rails much like the Tesla 2/3 mod. It also locks into place. To remove it, you need to slide a switch on the bottom. It’s easy to take off and put on unless there are no batteries in it which makes it harder to line up the rails.

Much like the RX Gen 3, It comes with a Gnome sub ohm tank in the kit. It’s not a bad little tank, but the coils aren’t very good. Luckily it can use the same coils as about a dozen other sub ohm tanks like the Smok Baby Beast, so you can buy different coils for it. We’ll see if it can stand up to the paces I’m planning to put it through for my full review!

Will it pass my testing like the Ravage 230 or fail hard like the RX Gen 3? I can’t answer those questions yet, but I’ll let you know in a few weeks, when I’m back with a full review. If you have any questions feel free to post them below. Do you own a Reuleaux mod? What’s your experience been like?
