Build quality and design
The Kilo 1K is a well-built pod system. The dimensions are 9.5 mm x 18 mm x 109 mm. It weighs only 26 grams, and while being slightly heavier than others like it, the minimal increase in heft gives the device more substance.
The overall shape of the Kilo is a flattened octagon with a slightly tapered ergonomic mouthpiece. The finish on the Kilo 1K is a black rubberized coating over zinc alloy that feels secure in the hand while also being pleasant to grip.
While the magnetic pods don’t click into place and they fit into the battery housing with a tiny bit of play, they are quite secure. I’ve tried to shake the pod out and they stay in until I get extreme. Under normal conditions you won’t have to worry about a pod slipping out.
The Kilo 1k pods
The Kilo 1K prefilled pods are better than many pods on the market in terms of quality of manufacturing. The tank portion of the Kilo 1K pods is enclosed by thick plastic and the elongated diamond-shaped window gives a clear picture of your juice levels.
None of the pods have leaked a drop! Not even condensation has appeared on the bottom of the pod. This is a plus for the Kilo 1K! No one wants to handle wet pods, and some systems fail in this regard right out of the package.
Kilo 1k prefilled flavors
These six flavors come from the Standard Series of Kilo e-juice, except here they come with high-strength nic salt at 4.5% (45 mg/mL).
Since the battery is sold without even a sample pack, you will have to commit to at least one 4-pack of a single flavor to go with your battery. Hopefully my tasting-notes can help you choose.
Strawberry: Sweet strawberry with only a light candy-like taste. Strawberry is likely the most sought-after fruit flavor in vaping, and this one doesn’t disappoint with the basic strawberry flavor. It would’ve been nice to have other elements with it, like a sweet cream or even a yogurt, but as a straight-up strawberry flavor it’s fine as is.
Lemon Berry Ice: Slightly sweet berries with citrus notes and a light chill. While I’m not typically a fan of mentholated or even minty flavors, this flavor is just too good for me to knock because of the chill element. The berry and citrus notes are amplified by the chill. It works well with this flavor.
Dewberry: Sweet berries reminiscent of a berry bubble gum flavor. I love the aroma of the juice and it tastes fine, but to me it’s a bit too close to bubble gum. I wasn’t even sure what dewberry was until I googled it. Dewberry is reminiscent of raspberries and blackberries, and I think that’s lacking here. If it were just labeled bubble gum, I might appreciate it more for what it is as opposed to what it’s not.
Nutty: Vanilla bean with a touch of almond. Again, the name threw me for a loop after tasting it. Just calling this juice “Nutty” does it a disservice! I didn’t even try this one for a while simply because of the name. It’s a creamy and minimally sweet dessert flavor that’s heavier on the silky vanilla than earthy nuts (almond). Overall, I am very impressed with this flavorful juice.
Smooth Tobacco: A classic light tobacco e-juice with a touch of smokiness. It’s quite difficult to describe this juice. If you don’t do sweet flavors or fruits, this would likely be the one for you. Fans of tobacco e-juice may associate this flavor with a light Virginia type of tobacco.
Menthol Tobacco: Ice cold with touch of tobacco. If you are fan of menthol, this is one of the iciest menthol juices I’ve tried. It’s very mentholated. If that’s your thing, you should find yourself in heaven here. This flavor could be a lifesaver to anyone that smokes menthol cigarettes.
Performance
The Kilo 1K has a tight draw and a nice throat hit with comfortably warm vapor. The flavor is good, and the vapor output is appropriate for a stealth device. The pods don’t leak, sizzle excessively or pop, and I haven’t got much if any spitback. But occasionally I can get a dry hit when taking long hits. To mitigate that, you can squeeze the mouthpiece and watch as bubbles float to the surface. This will saturate your wicks should the vape begin to taste dry. Don’t go too far with this or you can cause your pod to leak.
When I first got the 1K, the automatic draw sometimes wouldn’t activate. I tried a light draw all the way to a forceful draw, but it still would fail about 10% of the time. But after my first battery charge, it hasn’t done it again.
Battery life and charge times
The battery life is what you might expect for 350 mAh – not great. But that’s the trade off with the convenience of a stealth battery. I can get almost a day of moderate usage with it. The LED is white while charged and it turns red when almost deleted.
The only real issue I have with the battery is the long charge times and the fact that the 1k is not a pass-thru device. I hawked the charge with a stop watch, and it took over an hour. At some point between an hour and an hour and five minutes, the red charge LED went off. With no pass-thru, that is a long time to be without. I would like to see this device have a quick charge and/or a pass-thru feature.
Likes
- Easy to use
- Manufactured and designed well
- High-quality flavor choices
- Easy draw
- Tight MTL draw
- Quick battery charge
- Rubberized coating feels good in the hand
Dislikes
- Occasional dry hits
- No sample pack with the battery purchase
- No pass-thru charging
- Long charge times
Verdict
Overall, the Kilo 1K is a good pod system. My biggest issues are that it doesn’t come with sample pack of flavors, and it has a long charge time. That said, the overall vape – throat hit and flavor – is good enough that I can live with those cons.
