A revolutionary twist on airflow control

Augvape-merlin-rta-mtl

MTL vaping is making a comeback and with its resurgence we’re seeing a lot of new MTL atomizer designs.

The Merlin MTL RTA is Augvape’s first rendition of this basic mouth-to-lung tank, and builds upon the well-liked Merlin RTA design. The 22-mm diameter base accommodates a modified single coil build deck that offers 7 mm of building space and includes 9 mm wicking ports for ease of use.

The deck itself is elevated slightly above the base of the atomizer and utilizes top-tightening hex screws to secure the installed build. Two additional hex screws are located below the deck posts and can be adjusted independently. The presence of these additional hex screws allows the user to manipulate the internal airflow at will, for added customization — a unique characteristic of this design.

In addition, Augvape has also incorporated a center airflow hole, which channels airflow from below the installed coil into the main tank chamber. The design team has also included proprietary “air plugs” with the kit, which can be fitted inside this center hole and are set in staggered increments to further restrict the airflow. Essentially, this means that users have more control over the actual draw and subsequent vapor outputs.

This design is all about dynamic airflow control!

While this is an innovative feature, perhaps Augvape has complicated the design more than is really necessary. Nonetheless, for DIY enthusiasts and hobbyists specifically, there seems to be some fun to be had when it comes to further customization.

The e-juice reservoir holds 3 mL, and juice flows freely from the top of the chamber to the coil below. The tank is topped with a wide-bore delrin drip tip. Augvape has included an old-school Nautilus-style stainless steel drip tip as a throwback to earlier MTL designs. However, since the chimney measures 6 mm in diameter (and the drip tip measures only 3 mm), it is more problematic than useful, since it’s more likely to cause condensation and spit back.

At a glance, the Augvape MTL RTA appears to be a serviceable and intriguing addition to the MTL atomizer range and it does get top marks for quality machining. What are your thoughts on this design? Are you keen to give it a try? Leave a comment and let us know!
