The Pulse X BF Kit is the latest collaboration between Vandy Vape and YouΤube reviewer, Tony B. The Pulse line of products carries Tony’s signature and features products that focus on squonk mods and RDAs. The Pulse 80W kit and Pulse BF kit were hugely popular with veterans and beginners alike. With their latest project, Vandy Vape and Tony B combine an innovative RDA with a more powerful and versatile mod.
The mod is an updated edition of the Pulse 80W squonk mod. It is rated for 90 watts and can use 18650, 20700 and 21700 batteries. The kit also includes the new Pulse X RDA with an X-shaped center post that allows you to install dual horizontal or vertical builds. The RDA is ideal for squonking, as it delivers juice directly to your coils and to the juice well at the bottom of the deck.

More options, more power
The Pulse X mod has a very solid feel, but it is not at all heavy. It fits nicely in the hand and has very clicky and responsive buttons. The sample I used had no rattle from the buttons or panels. The included silicone squonk bottle is soft when squeezed, but firm enough to capture excess juice when released.
The removable front and back panels also come with new color and material options. I was hoping I would receive one of the editions that come with the G10 panels as this is a very durable material that is used in the manufacturing of army knives. I received the Frosted Cyan edition instead – I love the looks, but it’s not as “special” as the black G10 one. All panels are cross-compatible with the Pulse 80W and will be available for purchase separately.
The mod has many of the same features as the Pulse 80W, with an updated Boost Power mode that delivers up to an extra 10 watts of power to the 90 watts that it is rated for. I suggest activating Boost mode only when using good quality 20700s or 21700s though. All in all, if you don’t already have a Pulse 80W, then the added features of the Pulse X make it a much better option, especially if you are planning on using larger batteries.
The Pulse X RDA has a 24 mm diameter, adjustable airflow, and an X-shaped center post with four post holes. It also features a squonk-to-coil system. A typical BF RDA delivers juice to the bottom of the build deck and wets the wicks from the bottom. The X RDA does this but also delivers liquid to the top of the center post and directly on top of the coils. We recently saw something similar with the Capstone RDA, but the Pulse X does it better, in my opinion. Know that you will need to give your squonk bottle a firm squeeze as e-liquid will have to travel through the full length of the center post to feed the coils from the top — if you don’t squeeze hard enough, most of the juice will end up exiting through the bottom hole.
Building on the X RDA couldn’t be any simpler. The layout of the post holes is reminiscent of older Velocity-style decks, and the X design means you can use both vertical and horizontal coils. The post screws come in from a downward angle and do a great job of grabbing round wire and multi-strand Claptons without mangling the coils. Once you have the coils installed, you just need to center them under the top juice-flow ports. That’s it, ready to wick. Make sure to cut your wicks long enough to touch the bottom of the deck but without covering the bottom juice holes.
Vaping with the X RDA was very enjoyable. When wide open, the airflow is slightly restricted and produces good flavor and vapor density. Vandy Vape includes a clear cap that comes with a wide non-adjustable airflow, but I found that the flavor takes a hit when using it. It is not for me, but I am pretty sure that it will be appreciated by cloud chasers. I quickly went back to the normal cap and tried out several builds, including simple round wire and fused Claptons.
My preferred setup was a pair of stainless steel fused Claptons at 0.15 ohms at around 75 watts. This type of build doesn’t play well with single battery devices, and I can’t help but think that this RDA is better suited to use with a mod with more battery capacity. Using 20700s or 21700s does make a difference though, and I’d suggest going for one of these if you use the Pulse X mod with a power-hungry build.
I am betting that the Pulse X kit will be a best-seller. Previous Tony B/Vandy Vape projects have been very popular, and I’d be surprised if their best offering to date doesn’t sell out fast.
