Geekvape Aegis Legend Preview | Durability and Dual Batteries

It’s a sequel, but is it equal?

The new Geekvape new mod looks a lot like last year’s vaping sensation — but with even more power. The Geekvape Aegis Legend claims to push 200 watts of power, driven by two 18650 batteries. It promises to be even more indestructible than the original Geekvape Aegis, and without making any design compromises. Well, maybe just one — but more on that later.

Geekvape says the Legend will employ six different high-quality durable materials; making it shockproof and dustproof. It’s also waterproof for up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to a meter. It will come in five different designs, and be available in a kit with the Geekvape Aero Mesh sub ohm tank.

Mod price: $65-75

Aegis Legend Kit

The original Geekvape Aegis was almost indestructible. Last August it managed to survive three of our four torture tests. We submerged it for an hour in e-liquid and beer, threw it from a sixth floor window, and drove a six-ton tractor over it. The Aegis finally gave up the ghost when we froze it in a block of ice, and water damaged the circuit board. But, hey, how many mods have three lives?

The dual-battery version of the Aegis is said to be even more durable than its older (and smaller) brother, with its only Achilles heel being the battery-door latch. Due to the dual-battery configuration, the Geekvape designers couldn’t easily use the original Aegis battery cap on the Legend, so they went with a durable safety latch — but they advise users not to drop it from a height over a meter. The impact from multiple falls above that height might result in battery damage or permanent loss of waterproofing. You can read Geekvape’s full explanation on their site.

According to Geekvape, the first batch will be released at the end of April – so we declare May Aegis Legend Torture Month.

Unfortunately, the Geekvape Aegis Legend will only use 18650’s, probably due to size constraints. The Legend will charge through the USB port though, unlike the original Aegis, and the port can also be used for firmware updates. But while on-board charging might seem like a benefit, most battery experts advise charging with a dedicated charger.

The kit comes with the Geekvape Aero Mesh sub ohm tank, an updated version of the Aero tank. The Aero Mesh comes with a 5-mL bubble glass and a new KA1 mesh coil. It is going to be compatible with the IM coils as well as the SMOK TFV8 Baby coils.

According to Geekvape, the first batch will be released at the end of April – so we declare May Aegis Legend Torture Month. We’ll be doing a full review of the Geekvape Aegis Legend in the near future. No promises, but we may have to haul the old tractor out of the barn for this one… but we won’t be dropping it.
